Traditional marketing methods are constantly being challenged and compared to the digital marketing and promotion methods. Home based businesses are opting for digital rather than the offline marketing methods such as newsletters, trade shows, brochures, flyers, advertising in newspapers, and passing out audio CD’s about their product or business. This is probably due more to cost rather than anything else.

Some of the most effective marketing methods are 'low-cost' or 'no-cost' options: networking, cultivating relationships, using the Web and e-mail etc. Old marketing and promotion methods are failing because users will no longer accept ‘brute force’ advertising that tries to win users over through sheer volume, using abrasive web-page banners, door knocking and phone calling.
